Think Tank ALEF — illuminating action with wisdom, transforming wisdom into policy.
The Think Tank ALEF (T.T.A.), led by Chief Rabbi of Africa Pinhas Eliyahou SHADAY, born KITOKO SHADAY Diakiese Mara, reinvents public thought by weaving scholarly knowledge with living wisdom. At the crossroads of the Carrefour de Sagesse — a meeting place for cosmologies, ethical traditions, and community practices — the T.T.A. produces clear, engaged, and practical analyses to rethink society, peace, memory, justice, and cultural transmission today.
What we do? We translate deep knowledge (indigenous philosophies, religious traditions, cosmologies) into operational proposals for policymakers, community actors, and researchers. Our Notes Analytics combine rigor and readability: data syntheses, historical perspective, concrete recommendations, and actionable scenarios. Formats: Short Notes, Thematic Analyses, “Carrefour” Dossiers, interviews, and policy briefs — all designed to be read, shared, and applied.
Why the T.T.A. stands out?: A bridge between tradition and modernity: we valorize on-the-ground wisdom (ancestors, rites, practices) without sacrificing contemporary analytical methods. An interdisciplinary approach: anthropology, theology, social sciences, data analysis, and intervention design. Impact by design: our publications aim to inform public policy, strengthen local initiatives, and enrich civic debate. Key themes: Peace and reconciliation (rites, mediation, cosmologies of peace). Transmission and memory (education, orality, intangible heritage) Environmental ethics (ecological cosmologies, climate justice). Cultural governance and inclusion (economy, autonomy, recognition, public policy)
Who we serve and how to engage? For researchers, spiritual leaders, NGOs, cultural institutions, and policymakers seeking strategic guidance informed by living wisdom. Subscribe to our Notes Analytics, propose a field study, or invite the T.T.A. to lead a series of “Carrefour de Sagesse” workshops — and gain full access to our analytic notes on our website.
Superstition, Religion, and Wisdom: Moving from Fear to Knowledge
The think tank ALEF, through its discussion forum “Carrefour des sagesses,” (Crossroad of Wisdom) convened around the Chief Rabbi of Africa (Pinhas Eliyahou SHADAY) and several speakers to address a theme that may appear marginal, yet is central to social cohesion: superstition.
Starting from a deliberately broad definition—one is superstitious when one acts without understanding the causal logic of one’s action—superstition ceases to be a marginal phenomenon and becomes a lens through which to interpret both individual and collective behavior.
